Public Statement

The European Playback Theater Gathering, taking place from October 2–5 in Salamanca (Spain), is born from the desire to bring together the international Playback Theatre community in a welcoming and fertile space, where we can continue to grow together, as a living and diverse community.

Inspired by this shared purpose, we invite each participant to explicitly commit to respecting human rights, as outlined in the Manifesto of the Iberian Playback Theatre Association, with our gaze directed toward a horizon of social justice in the world — embodying more and more our bodies, our voices, and our practices.
We express our respect for all cultures, spiritualities, religions, and ways of living that shape the identities of those who will join this gathering. We acknowledge and honor the richness of diversity in all its forms and personal journeys — including gender, racialization, social class, abilities, spiritualities, and more.
In alignment with this commitment, once we learned that October 2 coincides with Yom Kippur, we made the following program adjustments:

  • An early check-in period will be available before sunset on October 1 for those observing Yom Kippur
  • The opening ceremony will be recorded, while respecting those who do not wish to share their image
  • The welcome cocktail on October 2 will take place after sunset, coinciding with the breaking of the fast, followed by a moment of community connection.
  • A quiet and private space for prayer or contemplation will be available throughout the gathering for anyone who wishes to use it, regardless of spiritual tradition or personal practice

We reaffirm our commitment to diversity and intercultural dialogue. Our intention is to co-create — among all participants and the organizing team — a meaningful experience: a gathering that looks to the past with clarity, lives the present with community sensitivity, and contributes to building a more livable and humane future for all.

NOTE – June 1st, 2025

As the general organizing team of the EPTG 2025, we take responsibility for acting with care and awareness in order to respond to the organizational needs of the event. We also believe that, through this process, we can grow as a team, becoming more aware of ourselves, of others, and of the world around us in all its dimensions. We aspire to be collectively empathetic, inclusive, and compassionate.

Our decisions regarding the date of the EPTG 2025 were made based on the information we had at the time. We acknowledge that when selecting the dates, we were unaware of their overlap with Yom Kippur, a sacred day in the Jewish calendar. We take full responsibility for this lack of awareness. We apologize for not having reviewed global calendars and traditions as part of our commitment to a more inclusive organization.

We also apologize for any other situation that may have occurred in the past, is currently happening, or may occur in the future during the event.
