Inclusion and Playback Theatre

The inclusion of people with disabilities in the upcoming European Playback Theatre Gathering is a clear expression of our community’s commitment to diversity. This gathering aims to be an open, safe, and accessible space where all individuals—regardless of their abilities—can participate, create, and engage in meaningful scenic dialogue. By welcoming different tipes of embodiment, communication, and perception, we deeply enrich our artistic practice and expand our collective understanding of the human experience.

Playback Theatre has always been rooted in authentic story-sharing and in the creation of connections through empathetic listening. This commitment also brings an ethical responsibility: to build environments where the participation of people with disabilities is not only welcomed but recognized as essential. At this Gathering, we affirm that inclusion is not a symbolic gesture, but a vital principle that strengthens the integrity and transformative power of Playback Theatre. For this reason, the Accessibility Committee wishes to encourage the participation of all users, regardless of their abilities. To achieve our goal, we have created a space for mutual communication and problem solving accesibilidad.eptg@gmail.com. This email address serves as a means of resolving all issues related to accessibility to the activities of the meeting.

Let’s talk about voices and accessibility at this Playback Theater conference.

On the one hand, this art form is based on listening, representation, and the inclusion of multiple (resilient) voices. In a space where personal stories become creative material, it is essential that everyone, regardless of their physical, sensory, cognitive, or social conditions, be able to contribute fully.

On the other hand, ensuring accessibility means not only removing architectural or technical barriers, but also creating an environment in which each person’s participation depends mainly on their desire to do so.
In the context of Playback Theater, where the value of the encounter lies in the diversity of the stories shared, accessibility ensures that the richness of voices that would otherwise remain invisible is not lost.

Making a Playback Theater conference accessible is not only a matter of inclusion, but also of ethical and artistic coherence. If we seek to build more just and conscious communities through Playback Theater, it would be good to start by making a _vociferous accessibility
