Iberian Association of Playback Theatre (AITP)

The AITP is a non-profit association, based in Spain, whose main objective is to create meeting spaces around Playback Theatre. Every year, the AITP organises an Iberian Meeting, alternating between Spain and Portugal.

AITP aims to promote Playback Theatre in the Iberian Peninsula, to defend Human Rights through Playback Theatre and to promote the growth and development of individuals, groups and communities using Playback Theatre. The guiding principles of the AITP are stated in our manifesto.

Ana Fernández

Nurse specialist in mental health (UC); Psychodramatist and psychotherapist FEAP; Honorary collaborating teacher (CyL); Co-director of Impromptu – school of Psychodrama, Sociodrama and Applied Theatre, accredited by the Spanish Association of Psychodrama, and its programme accredited by the Spanish Society of Psychotherapy and Group Techniques; Trainer accredited by the Centre for Playback Theatre; Co-director of the Iberian School of Playback Theatre, accredited by the CPT; Collaborator of the Master of Applied Theatre (UV); Regional representative for Spain of the IPTN (International Playback Theatre network); President of the AEP (Spanish Association of Psychodrama).

Antonio Vicente

Born in Portalegre, raised in Estremoz and currently living in Lisbon, he holds a Master’s degree in Theatre – Theatre and Community from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. He participates as a theatre facilitator in the Theatre of Identities project and is co-responsible for the theatre area in the Therapeutic Theatre Group. He is also co-founder of the first playback theatre group in Portugal, Teatro Imediato, and a member of the StaCcato Choir. Together with João Silva and André Carvalho, he founded the Resina Teatro cooperative in May 2016.

Ángel Salinas Fernández 

Born in Salamanca, he currently lives in Madrid. Economist specialised in Macroeconomics, World Economics and Behavioural Economics (USAL and University of Tilburg – The Netherlands). Passionate about music (trombone and tuba). Trained at the Iberian School of Playback Theatre through its training curriculum accredited by the CPT. Member of the Playback Theatre group in Madrid (Spain) and participant of numerous national and international specialization courses (Jo Salas, Andrea Sandoval, Ana Fernández, Antonio Vicente, Juan Carlos Valladares, Joke Rood, Shyrley Legum, Elsa Childs…).

Sergio Carrascal Sánchez

Philosophy student (UNED). Biologist (USAL) specialising in bioinformatics and computational biology through a master’s degree (VIU) and a degree of his own (USAL). Junior programmer. Musician in the Playback Theatre Company ‘Entrespejos’.

Mª del Rocío Gentil Otero

Psychologist (USAL) specialising in Criminological and Victimological Intervention (UMH). Psychodramatist (Impromptu: Psychodrama, Sociodrama and Applied Theatre). Student of Philosophy (UNED) and Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology (USAL). Member of the Playback Theatre Company ‘Entrespejos’.

Margarida Mendes

Clinical Psychologist, member of the Portuguese Psychologists Association (license nº 026827), and Psychodramatist in training with the Portuguese Society of Psychodrama. Her work combines psychology and art, using tools such as Theatre of the Oppressed and Playback Theatre to promote emotional expression, inclusion, and Human Rights. She is a member of the Playback Theatre group Reverbo, based in Lisbon, with performances primarily in educational and community contexts. After completing a pioneering training in Therapeutic Playback Theatre, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), she has been dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of theatre in mental health, developing projects that merge therapeutic and community intervention to foster individual and social change.

Tomás Motos

Doctor in Philosophy and Educational Sciences with Extraordinary Award. Degree in Psychology, degree in Pedagogy. National Prize for Educational Research in 1985 (Accesit). Retired Professor of “Design, development and innovation of the curriculum” (University of Valencia). Director Master in Applied Theater (University of Valencia).
He has taught numerous teacher training courses and participated in national and international conferences on Creativity, Body Expression, Theatre in Education and Applied Theatre. His current field of interest is Applied Theater. Founder of the company “Teatro Playback Inestable”.)

Leticia Nieto

Bachelor in Clinical Psychology, expert in Human Development and Action Methods, including Playback Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed. She is a professor in the Master’s Program in Counseling at Saint Martin University. She works as a psychotherapist and educator, specializing in intercultural communication, motivation, and creativity.

Kathy Barolsky

A skilled Drama and Movement therapist and facilitator in the forefront of developing Drama Therapy and Playback Theatre in Africa. Employs strong interpersonal skills to direct an Applied Theatre company, implement trainings, conduct performances and run therapy groups. Applied Theatre career has been shaped by a concern with the challenges of diversity, transformation, HIV & Aids and emotional wellbeing. Utilises extensive creative facilitation and therapy skills to conduct work in government and non-government sectors.

Tamara Téllez

Bachelor in Psychology and professor at the University of Medical Sciences, she is a member of the Playback Theatre group “Espejos” in Santiago de Cuba. She combines her passion for her profession with her love for theatre. She has conducted research on how Playback Theatre can foster emotional development.

Steve Nash

Steve is a founding member, actor and musician of Playback Theatre York, which began life in 1991 and is the longest running PT company in the UK. He completed the CPT Leadership Program in 2017 and is an Accredited Trainer.
Steve worked as an occupational therapist and dramatherapist in mental health settings for many years, and helped to create alternative support services, including arts-based and user-led organizations. He is currently co-editor of the IPTN Journal and performs regularly as a musician and playwright.
He is passionate about recognizing the power and developing the potential of music in playback theater and has been invited to lead workshops and perform as a guest musician in many countries around the world.

Nadia Zúñiga

Expert theater and movement therapist and facilitator, at the forefront of the development of dramatherapy and playback theater in Africa. She employs strong interpersonal skills to direct an applied theater company, provide training, conduct performances and lead therapeutic groups. Her professional career in applied theater has been forged out of her concern for the challenges of diversity, transformation, HIV and AIDS and emotional well-being. She uses her extensive knowledge of creative facilitation and therapy to work in the governmental and non-governmental sectors.

Ferran Luengo

Ferran Luengo is a Spanish actor, improviser, applied theatre facilitator, and accredited playback theatre trainer based in London.
Passionate about playback theatre, he has been practicing it since 2013. He has led playback theatre workshops across several continents and serves as the secretary of the International Playback Theatre Network. Ferran is actively involved in several playback theatre projects, performing and facilitating with London Playback and True Heart Theatre. He also strives to incorporate awareness of playback theatre into his improvisational style.
Coming from a background in scripted theatre, Ferran has been an active improviser since 2006. He trained with numerous Spanish and international teachers, including at The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago. In Spain, he co-founded the English-speaking group Valencia Improv Playground. Now in London, he improvises with the a cappella musical improv troupe Acaprov, Not GCSE Drama, and the Hoopla Impro house team, Shuffle.
As an applied theatre facilitator and performer, Ferran is dedicated to theatre in education. He facilitates drama workshops and performs in numerous schools and colleges across London and beyond.
